New Defibrillator
Staplehurst Parish Council
The Parish Council have organised the installation of an automated external defibrillator in the telephone box at Church Green. It is for use by any member of the public in emergencies 24/7.
The defibrillator is now registered on The Circuit – the national defibrillator network. It’s also now connected to South East Coast Ambulance Service and more likely to be used in an emergency.
In the first instance, if someone collapses ring 999 for an ambulance. After this the first 6 to 8 minutes after collapsing is crucial. Take the defibrillator to the person who has had a heart attack and switch it on. You will hear instructions on each step of the procedure, including where to place the electrode packs on the persons chest, how to administer resuscitation and when to press the ‘Shock’ button. The equipment will prevent the operator giving a shock to someone who does not require it, so it cannot make the situation worse.
